Bear Vs. Shark By Chris Bachelder - 981 Words

Bear v. Shark, by Chris Bachelder states that entertainment dominates the life of America s society. More specifically, Bachelder portrays these on the computer-generated animals, the bear and the shark, who have brainwashed the culture of the Normans and the people in the United States. This paper will show the similarities and differences of the novel s portrayal of postmodern society to the world we live in today, and the fact where entertainment influences people to be obsessed with the technology and the products. In the United States, people are overpowered by the growth of the consumerism because of the material goods that reflect entertainment. In Bear v. Shark, Mr. Norman has been attached to the Vibra-Dream pillow. Bachelder states: â€Å"She (the pillow) doesn t care whether Mr. Norman used Visa or Mastercard... She (the pillow) just wants Mr. Norman to rest easy after a long day at the office† (Bachelder 17). It demonstrates that the Vibra-Dream pillow replaces his wife for it is always there to entertain him and make him more comfortable compare to Mr. Norman s wife, who is busy watching television all the time and does not have much time for her husband. In today s society, the most popular for adolescents’ drinks are alcohol or beers. The article states: â€Å"Further, few studies have focused on adolescents and alcohol advertisements where there is a great deal of sexuality and nudity. Alcohol is the most frequently advertise beverage in televised sports†
